Ash Storage Area Extension Project - Stanwell Corporation Limited Stanwell Corporation Limited awarded Alexanderson Earthmover the Ash Storage Extension Project at the Stanwell Power Station based on our extensive dam construction experience and value for money contracting attitude. The scope comprised the clearing of the site, construction of extensions to the ash containment embankments (Approx 350,000m3), evaporation ponds, drainage, topsoil and revegetation works. AE mobilised a PC750 Komatsu excavator with 50T Komatsu dump trucks to excavate load and haul to the Dam walls, diversion bunds and spillways. With material selection and management being the key requirement of the project to meet the strict quality assurance criteria, AE developed specific work methods and procedures utilising 50T Komatsu water cart, 825 Compactors and Cat 14G graders fitted with GPS to ensure quality compliance thereby achieving a successful outcome for the client.

Cooroy to Curra - Abigroup Contractors Alexanderson Earthmover were engaged by the successful tenderer (abigroup) on the Cooroy to Curra Main Roads contract to supplement their own construction fleet with additional Major plant and skilled operators for construction. The project scope consisted of the removal of 7 Million cubic metres of material to tight time constraints. Plant utilised were PC 1100 Komatsu excavators with a fleet of 50T Rear Dump Trucks. Final trim batter work was undertaken with several PC 300-8 excavators (with GPS) providing fast efficient and pegless operations. AE graders were utilised in the bulk earthworks crews for haul road maintenance and management of fills and was accomplished by our skilled final trim operators with GPS capability. The large volumes of material hauled through the project required our fleet to interact with other construction traffic extensively and was achieved without incident and to the satisfaction of our client. |

Wonarah Mine Project - Minemakers Limited Wonarah Mine is 3 hours by car from Tennant Creek and 4 hours to Mt Isa. The remote area project consisted of the provision of suitable plant and supervision to excavate a trial mining pit to bulk sample 170,000 bank cubic metres of rock phosphate. Earthworks consisted of the removal of overlying material and rock phosphate. This material was stripped utilising an excavator and truck operation. PC850 Komatsu Excavator and 6 No. 465-5 Komatsu 50T Rear Dump Trucks removed the underlying rock phosphate into stockpile ready for transportation to potential customers in India, Pakistan and North America. Due to the remote nature of the Project, Alexanderson Earthmover established on-site maintenance facilities to service the plant thereby ensuring high levels of plant availability. Current Productivity is exceeding the client’s objectives and they are on track to be in full production by mid 2010 to take advantage of the anticipated increase in demand for rock phosphate on the world market. |

Waterford - Tamborine Road Main Roads Project With the upgrade of Waterford - Tamborine Road requiring cut to fill of 130,000m3 a fleet of 631E Cat scrapers and 825G Cat compactors were mobilised. To enable the cut to fill operations to begin soft ground treatments of different methods were applied to enable bulk earthworks to begin, in areas moisture affected material was removed and other areas Bidum fabric and rock layers were chosen to found the road pavement. In some areas final trim was undertaken by 16H Cat grader using GPS control with a no peg policy saving time with no survey required. With batters requiring final trim in areas steeper than grader grades a PC 300-8 Komatsu excavator has been mobilised with a highly skilled final trim operator to enable detailed trim one pass completed works. With Hard rock encountered in cuttings, the decision to mobilise a 475 Komatsu dozer was made to reduce the need to drill and blast. This also enabled the hard rock material to be ripped using a methodology to manufacture the hard rock sand stone so the end product could be used in embankments.

Swanbank Landfill Waste Disposal Facility – Ipswich Alexanderson Earthmover was engaged by Swanbank Waste Management to remove spontaneous combustion material from an existing dump site after recent heavy rains had caused a slip onto Swanbank Road. These works were performed pursuant to the Coal Mining Act under the constant scrutiny of the Department of Mines and Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. Alexanderson’s were appointed SSE for the project site. Plant selected to undertake the works consisted of PC650 Komatsu Excavator, D9T Caterpillar Track Dozer and Scania Watercart with 13,000lt capacity with high pressure fire fighting capabilities. As limited data existed on how spontaneous combustion material reacted in its own environment with different elements and exposure ratios, the Department of Mines and Energy subsequently used this work as a test case. Specialised heat guns and gas monitoring equipment were utilised to measure the temperature and discharge of gases of the material in its natural state and throughout excavation Material temperatures varied between 50 degrees and up to 380 degrees Risk assessments and JSEA’s were completed and updated daily due to the nature of the material and handling requirements. Continual monitoring and data collection was compiled throughout the excavation allowing Alexanderson Earthmover and the client to make informed decisions regarding the safety of their personnel and plant to deliver a safe and effective outcome for all parties.
